With such a diverse roster of bands, I don’t know how it is that I’m obsessed with virtually every Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar release. I guess they just have me pegged.
I first noticed Gardens & Villa when their weirdo-funk track, “Orange Blossom” landed on Baltimore-based Pasta Primavera’s Winter Chain Mix. It’s a fun track, but I’m even more excited to hear this Santa Barbara-based band’s debut after hearing and seeing the video for “Black Hills.” Gone is the funk of “Orange Blossom,” and in is a catchy synthesized bassline that perfectly ballances the song’s falsetto vocals. I like the call and response of the chorus as well.
