I’ve made it pretty clear that, in this post-Pavement world we live in, I’m a sucker for anything that will fill the deep, dark void that remains since their breakup. Thankfully, The Broken Remotes are another source I can turn to for help. They are an L.A. band that Octavius from KXLU turned me on to recently.
Some of their stuff is punkier, but “Lie In Wait” is my favorite from the earlier album. I’m kind of betting that the line, ” You burn miles of Pavement on one CD and you’re / Startin’ to like the singer’s voice” worked on me subconsciously. Yes it is reminiscent of Pavement, but I like this singer’s voice too! “Coffee Stains” shows a great sense of humor about themselves, and “Cure Me Now” is another favorite. Those drums are sweet. Hopefully they’ll play locally soon.
