Though I enjoy what I hear by her, I’ve never really followed Aimee Mann that closely. I had a friend that I worked with back in New York who was very much into her, and introduced me to Jim White through the incredible collaboration they did for his 2004 album, Drill A Hole In That Substrate And Tell Me What You See. Its funny how songs become so tied to the time in which you hear them. And I don’t even mean the association that we make with event and place when hearing certain music, but even literally: there is a lot of music that I left behind by moving cross-country. Drill A Hole is an album that belonged to a friend, so in moving away from him, I moved away from Jim White. I am still very much in touch with that friend, so it was cool that a one of my new coworkers played “Static On The Radio” at work recently, so now I am back in touch with it as well. It had a nice way of making me feel at home again.
