Rademacher : Spaceland

Rademacher
Although I shouldn’t, I always have some reservations over free shows. It’s not a question of quality, but more of, “do I really get this for free?” Well, unless you go sober, no, you don’t. Nevertheless, getting to check out Fresno’s Rademacher without a cover was something I couldn’t pass up on a Sunday, even to fold up two loads of laundry.

They played a solid, lively set. And the whole show felt surprisingly local for a band from up North. I think they did a good job pulling out locals with Fresno roots. They sounded somewhere between Polvo and Earlimart, and singer-songwriter, Mike M’s vocals have much more range than the dreary Stephen Malkmus voice I had expected. I’m digging their Ice Age EP. Oh, and they ended with a Talking Heads cover. Now we’re on a road to somewhere.

[…] Though Voxtrot’s pop-rock sound wasn’t as danceable, they made up for that with unabashedly nerdy energy. Lead singer, Ramesh bounced around the stage like an excited teenager rocking out alone in their bedroom. It helped to draw the crowd in though, and after they played a Talking Heads cover, “Heaven,” I realized his moves were akin to those of a young David Byrne, minus a bit of the Byrne’s smoothness. You know, I’ve been hearing a lot of Talking Heads covers recently. Well, good. They played a pretty even smattering of songs from the both EP’s. They actually played another cover, tacking on Comet Gain’s “You Can Hide Your Love Forever” to the end of “Raised by Wolves” (Gorilla vs Bear posted a live version from WOXY set here). The songs were consistantly good, but there is something really great about when the organ kicks in during the chorus and at the end of “Wrecking Force.” […]
