kcrw
i missed the king of france tonight at spaceland thanks to the overprotective bouncing that goes along with “kcrw presents” events. the stupidest part of it all is that they were keeping a line of people outside to avoid overcrowding, but it really wasn’t crowded inside. well actually, the stupidest part is that had i known they were on, i would have made a stronger effort at getting in to see them rather than standing in line like an idiot. i could have cared less about the helio sequence, who was headlining. times like these i understand why indie snobs get protective of bands they are into: if you don’t recommend bands you like to others, there is less of a chance of you getting stuck in the cold. honestly, half of the reason i listen to the obscure/underappreciated bands that i do is to avoid the hassle of ticketmaster-type stress that goes along with larger venues. when the club around the corner from me tries to use a phony lines to hype up their shows i probably need to find somewhere else to go. call me fairweather. my 2006 concert-going sure has started on a sour note.

i’m surprised to see these guys getting any press at all. i saw them open up for Alec Ounsworth last fall, and they just seemed like some washed up late 30’s guys that didn’t get it, but thought they were still awesome, so they were still trying. the drummer had all these hair metal band antics like spinning the sticks all the time, etc. he was amusing, but that was about it.

i got to see one song, which i wasn’t impressed with, but all the same i was still let down that i had missed them for no reason.

KCRW sucks donkey dicks. “corporate sponsors picked music” for uncultured yuppies with no taste.

only thing good on that station is NPR.
