like mercury… cedars

Cedars
I noticed Cedars recently after listening to their live set from the WOXY podcast. They are a pretty new band from D.C. They were previously known as Cartel, but thankfully changed their name so as not to be confused with a horrible emo/pop-punk act from Atlanta. During the live set, they admit to some Doves/Elbow/U2 influences, although I think they sound like Perfect From Now On-era Built To Spill with, yes, The Doves. At times the guitars sound like Interpol, as well. There are a few solid demos on their website, and though I don’t expect that they will soon be playing outside of the East Coast, I hope that a release of some sort is on its way. In the meantime, don’t miss the 12/5 podcast.
