I don’t know what cataclysmic event in the history of sarcastic indie rock criticism gave us cokemachineglow (dot com), but i assume that it must have been reminiscent of Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal; with a vibrant soda-dispensing shard breaking off from a larger pitchfork-shaped gem, whilst 3-suns overlap to cause an eclipse of unearthly proportions. Well it’s certainly a better use of time than this (Wouldn’t it be nice if the fork could just include rebutals or even a “letters to the editor” section? Because the whole ‘ignore the dissenters’ thing has gotten really played-out this year).
Well CMG’s collection of year-end lists are awesome, especially the OK Computer top 12, top 8 use of handclaps, and the top 10 worst list ideas. I liked the covers list too, though it probably could be expanded to 25 or 50 even (Modest Mouse’s Santo & Johnny cover would make my list). Did I mention they have a podcast? I must still be on those crazy pills though, because I can’t find an RSS link for the thing.

I also enjoy the off-klter lists, but can’t help thinking of the way the Village Voice and the LA Weekly have done the same sort of thing in their own yearly reviews of New York and LA respectfully, and I’m sure there there are others. Its a good alternative technique to conventional ratings and can deflect a good deal of criticism while being critical itself.
That Rogue Wave track is cut off. Too bad.
did you download the whole thing? it’s not cut off for me. 9.4 mb.
